OSCARs 2020!

The best dressed was Kristin Cavallari!

Splendid! Kristin hits all the high notes here. Brilliant, just brilliant.

Also looking great were:

Scarlett Johansson:

Fantastic satin-esque fabric, and the cut and how the dress drapes around her, highlights her wonderful femininity. The intricate filament work in the mid to top section of the dress vaunts this outfit to second place. Irrespective of the translucence… the outfit is still screaming for the necklace.

Kaitlyn Dever:

Well done, though the dress perhaps could have been shorter so the shoes were visible, to give some contrast to the carpet. It would have been better to have a moderately-sized ruby pendant in her necklace.

Regina King:

Very good. It could have done with a little more punch/contrast.

Janelle Monae:

Exquisite. Very few people can pull this off without looking too alien. Here, Janelle succeeds. It seems to rekindle an aspect of Star Wars.

Lily Aldridge:

Simple, and cost-effectively done. Wonderful.

Honourable Mentions:

Idina Menzel:

This was on the right track, though some design choices thwarted its momentum.

Alison Balsom:

Ooouu… this one was close. She managed to get the shade of orange just right. Ultimately, safe and sound.

SAG Awards 2020!

The best dressed was Jennifer Anniston!

Simple, yet stunning. Wonderful femininity. You momentarily think she’s lacking accoutrements, but then you realize that she just slays it, and nothing else is required. Breathtaking.

Also looking great were:

Leslie Bibb in August Getty Atelier:

Smashing! This is a wonderful gold leaf dress, and she is accessorized to a T.

Catherine Zeta-Jones:

Very good, though there are a few issues with fit, and the makeup is somewhat off. The earrings redeem the outfit.

Nicole Kidman in Michael Kors:

Iridescent! The shoe straps are a miss though.

Liv Pollock:

Refreshingly different and unique. Liv is working this extremely well… terrific poise and presence.

Scarlett Johansson:

Wow. The colour and shade of lipstick are absolutely spot-on for this dress. The earrings could have been better.

Dania Gulai in Thierry Mugler:

This really suits her.

Golden Globes 2020!

The best dressed was, Dame Helen Mirren!

Wow, such class and elegance, very well put together. The necklace is superb!

Nicole Kidman

Lovely and great poise. Interesting to go with that shade of gold for the earrings and handbag.

Jennifer Lahmers:

Stunning. This dress fits like it was moulded to her body… excellent craftsmanship. It’s all complemented by the matching beautiful earrings and ring.

Nicole Kimpel:

Lovely and fairly unique dress, certainly in terms of the cut. She nails it with the clutch. Well done.

Priyanka Chopra:

Her lipstick and nails are somewhat off, and the gathers in the mid-section of the dress give one pause, but overall it passes.

Paige Butcher:

BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA – JANUARY 05: Paige Butcher (L) and Eddie Murphy attend the 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on January 05, 2020 in Beverly Hills, California. (Photo by Jon Kopaloff/Getty Images)

Paige is killing it here, and she has the perfect shoes for this outfit. This was the knockout look of the night.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS:

Renée Zellweger:

The smoothness in this dress is next level. Wonderful slit and shoes.

Anna de Armas:

Unique.

Rita Wilson:

Wonderful.

Sofia Vergara:

It seems to be a formula that works for her and that she relies on… no harm in that.

Rachel Weisz:

Yes!

Kerry Washington:

Daring; adventurous. The too-long-sleeves are off-putting, but it is redeemed somewhat by the slit.

Saoirse Ronan:

Simple, but very well done, including the makeup.

Oh, what could have been:

Natalie Morales:

Promising, but really missing a necklace.

EMMYS 2019!

The best dressed was Jameela Jamil, in Monique Lhuillier!

This is lovely. Just about everything is perfect. Jameela likes this style of strapless dress and it works for her. Her lipstick and accessories are spot on, and the clutch purse brings it home… a smashing success!

Also looking very good were:

Zendaya, in Vera Wang

Stunning all-round. A remarkable blend of sheer fabric and a tremendous slit. And those satin shoes… wow!

Kathryn Newton, in Ralph Lauren

Refreshingly unique and beautiful, and Kathryn carries this extremely well. Love the translucence, and she brings the outfit to life. Clear toenail polish would have been better.

Ryan Michelle Bathe, in Zac Posen

Safe and sound. Not a risky endeavour, and where some went overboard, she stayed on safe ground. She would have benefitted from a necklace.

Honourable Mentions:

Joey King, in Zac Posen

This is a wonderful dress that unfortunately isn’t complimented with the right accessories and makeup. And, it is screaming for the necklace.

Bethany Frankel, in Alex Perry

This is beautiful and Bethany was on the right track. There were simply some better outfits that eclipsed hers.

Candice Van Houten

I wish I could hear the story behind this. Nonetheless, it’s a good way to do, “I want to look different to everyone else”, without looking ridiculous.

Oh, what could have been:

Patricia Clarkson, in Christian Siriano

So close! The fabric is spectacular. Those dangling sleeves don’t quite suit her… and, the accessories and makeup are misses.

Oscars 2019!

The best dressed was Julia Roberts!

She just sucks the air out of the room here.  What a jaw-dropping entrance.   (Technically she wasn’t on the Red Carpet, but hands-down added halo to the evening.)   The only persons who looked better went straight to the Vanity Fair after-party.

Here, Julia has overdone nothing.   And its not just the fuchsia… she’s radiant inside-out.   Brilliant, just brilliant!

Also looking very good were:

Brie Larson:

Brie Larson
91st Annual Academy Awards, Arrivals, Los Angeles, USA – 24 Feb 2019

Beauty in simplicity!   The depth/height of the collar is a bit off, but she carries this really well.   And not a tattoo in sight…   Marvellous!

Molly Sims:

HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA – FEBRUARY 24: (L-R) Molly Sims and Scott Stuber attend the 91st Annual Academy Awards at Hollywood and Highland on February 24, 2019 in Hollywood, California. (Photo by Frazer Harrison/Getty Images)

Blimey, she looks good!   Lipstick almost matching nails… check!   But it’s the earrings… she nails it with the earrings!!

Jennifer Hudson:

HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA – FEBRUARY 24: Jennifer Hudson attends the 91st Annual Academy Awards at Hollywood and Highland on February 24, 2019 in Hollywood, California. (Photo by Frazer Harrison/Getty Images)

Wonderful!   A modest necklace and a gold bracelet on her left wrist would have been the icing on this Flamenco-inspired cake!

Emilia Clarke:

Emilia Clarke
91st Annual Academy Awards, Arrivals, Los Angeles, USA – 24 Feb 2019

Elegant, but she could have done more, for example with her hair.   (Don’t style hair for the Oscars, as you would going to the shower.)

Maria Menounous:

HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA – FEBRUARY 24: Maria Menounos attends the 91st Annual Academy Awards at Hollywood and Highland on February 24, 2019 in Hollywood, California. (Photo by Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images)

Wonderful!   More Summery than Oscar-Red-Carpet, but hey… she had brain surgery last year.   Well done.

Oh what could have been:

Liliana Vasquez:

The dress stars fairly well but is let down by the supporting cast of her hair and nails.   Love the slit that seems to slither upwards into a cutout that’s symmetric to the slanted cut at her cleavage.   The outfit conjures joy in anticipation of its potential, yet bittersweet sadness in its failure to be realized.

Grammys 2019!

The best dressed was Dua Lipa!

Stunning.   However, she seems mentally distracted, and not fully engaged with the moment to be radiant.

Also looking very good were:

Alicia Keys:

She’s still championing minimal makeup, and being a superb ambassador of that.   She looks perfect.  Her designer played a naughty prank on her though, with that hemline of her dress.

Tish Cyrus:

Genuinely well put-together.

Camila Cabello in Armani:

A bit plain at the front, but Camila carries it well, and the back showcases her curves well.   Lovely shimmering colour too.     The earrings are bang-on perfect.

Nazanin Mandi:

Nazanin is really rocking this outfit.   Exquisite.

Tori Kelly:

Solid, though a statement necklace would have been better.

Zuri Hall:

Wonderful, however these hues are difficult on the Red Carpet.   Succeeds… barely though.

Lady Gaga:

The planets must be in alignment or something, she’s made it to this list twice in a row. (Well actually, the last time she didn’t quite make it.)   Bravo, well done.   However, here it seems she is pining for her former self.

Honourable Mentions:

Heidi Klum:

She can often pull off the extravagant, as well (like here) the adventurous and quirky.   This is actually quite a difficult outfit, and on someone else may have been a disaster.   However the sequinned lapel is complemented by her long hair draped on the other side, and she is absolutely perfectly accessorized.

Jameela Jamil:

Good, though this seems incomplete without a pendant necklace.   Fascinating… carbon-fibre spaghetti straps.

Oh, what could have been:

Jorga Smith:

This was fabulous and original until her neck started getting attacked by the creature from the deep.

SAG Awards 2019!

The best dressed was Robin Wright!

Smoking…
It’s really admirable that she eschews the ‘Painted-on face’ look, and often displays a wonderful more natural look.

Sandra Oh:

Wow.   A wonderful blend of dress styles.
Hmm… it’s as though she heard me from the last time, and now she has gotten the earrings (almost) right.     😉

Hilaria Baldwin:

Good.   The sheer sleeves are an unexpected yet delectable touch.

Honourable Mentions:

Mandy Moore:

The dress is good but sadly the top is off.   Though it seems to be missing a necklace, that’s not the case as the silver band at the top of the dress is so prominent… bordering on jarring even.  Long hair and silver earrings and perhaps a black choker necklace would go a long way toward providing balance to this outfit.

Sydelle Noel:

Normally I’m not fond of this type of dress for Red Carpets.  However, she squeaks past the post as it’s only the SAG awards.

Oh what could have been:

Lady Gaga:

Michael’s law:   “The words tattoos and elegance should never go together in the same sentence.”
Nonetheless, compared to several of her previous outings, this is a welcome improvement!

Golden Globes 2019!

The best dressed was Halle Berry!

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – JANUARY 06: Halle Berry attends the 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on January 6, 2019 in Beverly Hills, California. (Photo by Steve Granitz/WireImage)

Sensational!

Also excellently-dressed were:

Sandra Oh in Versace:

Beauty in simplicity. Thankfully, she let the dress be, and did not overdo it. Hanging earrings would have been better though.

Camilla Belle in Jason Wu:

A big yes to the dress and clutch-purse. The eye-shadow could have been better though.

Irina Shayk:

Irina Shayk and Bradley Cooper

I’d be inclined to say that she’s missing the necklace, but her naturally full lips make up for it. The only thing wrong here is that Bradley’s light-cream tuxedo is muting her dazzle.

Allison Janney:

Well done, despite the gasp-inducing fan-out-at-the-wrists sleeves.

Honourable Mentions:

Heidi Klum:

Refreshingly beautiful. Heidi often bravely pushes the envelope.

Regina King:

She seems a bit tense here, but she can relax… she did fine.

Marina de Tavria (Right):

Lovely dress, though the outfit is screaming for the necklace.

Oh, what could have been (Dakota Fanning, in Armani Privé):

There’s lots of potential here… the execution could have been better.

MET Gala 2018!

The best dressed was Blake Lively!

Jaw-droppingly good.   Magnificent!     The stuff of legend.
The funny thing is that she isn’t even really trying.   She’s just so effortless and natural.   It’s spellbinding.

Also looking great were:

Kesha Ward:

Absolutely nails it.

Lynda Carter:

The original Wonder Woman.

Emily Ratajowski:

Sheer elegance!

Suitably toned down for the occasion.   Bravo.

Honourable Mentions:

Zendaya:

Wonderful workmanship here.   Not sure if this was the right colour for her hair though.   Black hair may have been better.

Gigi Hadid:

Refreshingly unique.

Gabrielle Union:

Could have been less fabric as the yellow is so bright.   However, the fabulous necklace helps garner her a spot on the list.

Haley Baldwin:
