Oscars 2019!

The best dressed was Julia Roberts!

She just sucks the air out of the room here.  What a jaw-dropping entrance.   (Technically she wasn’t on the Red Carpet, but hands-down added halo to the evening.)   The only persons who looked better went straight to the Vanity Fair after-party.

Here, Julia has overdone nothing.   And its not just the fuchsia… she’s radiant inside-out.   Brilliant, just brilliant!

Also looking very good were:

Brie Larson
91st Annual Academy Awards, Arrivals, Los Angeles, USA – 24 Feb 2019

Beauty in simplicity!   The depth/height of the collar is a bit off, but she carries this really well.   And not a tattoo in sight…   Marvellous!

Molly Sims:

Blimey, she looks good!   Lipstick almost matching nails… check!   But it’s the earrings… she nails it with the earrings!!

Jennifer Hudson:

Wonderful!   A modest necklace and a gold bracelet on her left wrist would have been the icing on this Flamenco-inspired cake!

Emilia Clarke:

Emilia Clarke

Elegant, but she could have done more, for example with her hair.   (Don’t style hair for the Oscars, as you would going to the shower.)

Maria Menounous:

Wonderful!   More Summery than Oscar-Red-Carpet, but hey… she had brain surgery last year.   Well done.

Oh what could have been:

Liliana Vasquez:

The dress stars fairly well but is let down by the supporting cast of her hair and nails.   Love the slit that seems to slither upwards into a cutout that’s symmetric to the slanted cut at her cleavage.   The outfit conjures joy in anticipation of its potential, yet bittersweet sadness in its failure to be realized.

Grammys 2019!

The best dressed was Dua Lipa!

Stunning.   However, she seems mentally distracted, and not fully engaged with the moment to be radiant.

Also looking very good were:

Alicia Keys:

She’s still championing minimal makeup, and being a superb ambassador of that.   She looks perfect.  Her designer played a naughty prank on her though, with that hemline of her dress.

Tish Cyrus:

Genuinely well put-together.

Camila Cabello in Armani:

A bit plain at the front, but Camila carries it well, and the back showcases her curves well.   Lovely shimmering colour too.     The earrings are bang-on perfect.

Nazanin Mandi:

Nazanin is really rocking this outfit.   Exquisite.

Tori Kelly:

Solid, though a statement necklace would have been better.

Zuri Hall:

Wonderful, however these hues are difficult on the Red Carpet.   Succeeds… barely though.

Lady Gaga:

The planets must be in alignment or something, she’s made it to this list twice in a row. (Well actually, the last time she didn’t quite make it.)   Bravo, well done.   However, here it seems she is pining for her former self.

Honourable Mentions:

Heidi Klum:

She can often pull off the extravagant, as well (like here) the adventurous and quirky.   This is actually quite a difficult outfit, and on someone else may have been a disaster.   However the sequinned lapel is complemented by her long hair draped on the other side, and she is absolutely perfectly accessorized.

Jameela Jamil:

Good, though this seems incomplete without a pendant necklace.   Fascinating… carbon-fibre spaghetti straps.

Oh, what could have been:

Jorga Smith:

This was fabulous and original until her neck started getting attacked by the creature from the deep.

SAG Awards 2019!

The best dressed was Robin Wright!

Smoking…
It’s really admirable that she eschews the ‘Painted-on face’ look, and often displays a wonderful more natural look.

Sandra Oh:

Wow.   A wonderful blend of dress styles.
Hmm… it’s as though she heard me from the last time, and now she has gotten the earrings (almost) right.     😉

Hilaria Baldwin:

Good.   The sheer sleeves are an unexpected yet delectable touch.

Honourable Mentions:

Mandy Moore:

The dress is good but sadly the top is off.   Though it seems to be missing a necklace, that’s not the case as the silver band at the top of the dress is so prominent… bordering on jarring even.  Long hair and silver earrings and perhaps a black choker necklace would go a long way toward providing balance to this outfit.

Sydelle Noel:

Normally I’m not fond of this type of dress for Red Carpets.  However, she squeaks past the post as it’s only the SAG awards.

Oh what could have been:

Lady Gaga:

Michael’s law:   “The words tattoos and elegance should never go together in the same sentence.”
Nonetheless, compared to several of her previous outings, this is a welcome improvement!

Golden Globes 2019!

The best dressed was Halle Berry!

Sensational!

Also excellently-dressed were:

Sandra Oh in Versace:

Beauty in simplicity. Thankfully, she let the dress be, and did not overdo it. Hanging earrings would have been better though.

Camilla Belle in Jason Wu:

A big yes to the dress and clutch-purse. The eye-shadow could have been better though.

Irina Shayk:

I’d be inclined to say that she’s missing the necklace, but her naturally full lips make up for it. The only thing wrong here is that Bradley’s light-cream tuxedo is muting her dazzle.

Allison Janney:

Well done, despite the gasp-inducing fan-out-at-the-wrists sleeves.

Honourable Mentions:

Heidi Klum:

Refreshingly beautiful. Heidi often bravely pushes the envelope.

Regina King:

She seems a bit tense here, but she can relax… she did fine.

Marina de Tavria (Right):

Lovely dress, though the outfit is screaming for the necklace.

Oh, what could have been (Dakota Fanning, in Armani Privé):

There’s lots of potential here… the execution could have been better.

MET Gala 2018!

The best dressed was Blake Lively!

Jaw-droppingly good.   Magnificent!     The stuff of legend.
The funny thing is that she isn’t even really trying.   She’s just so effortless and natural.   It’s spellbinding.

Also looking great were:

Kesha Ward:

Absolutely nails it.

Lynda Carter:

The original Wonder Woman.

Emily Ratajowski:

Sheer elegance!

Suitably toned down for the occasion.   Bravo.

Honourable Mentions:

Zendaya:

Wonderful workmanship here.   Not sure if this was the right colour for her hair though.   Black hair may have been better.

Gigi Hadid:

Refreshingly unique.

Gabrielle Union:

Could have been less fabric as the yellow is so bright.   However, the fabulous necklace helps garner her a spot on the list.

Lovely.

OSCARS 2018!

And the winners were:

A tie:

Lupita Nyongo
Exquisite.   Her makeup is not overdone and that quasi-tiara is a delicate touch.    She needed the right earrings and possibly necklace to stand alone on the winner’s podium.

Lupita Nyong’o

and

Nancy O’Dell
Nancy is working this outfit very well and brings it up a notch.    The highlight stripe is a wonderful tapestry of beads and stones.    As it meanders to the top, it accentuates her curves well.

Next:

Helen Mirren
Pure class…    absolutely nailed it.

Vanessa Bryant
Wow, maybe she should do more red carpets.

Honourable Mentions:

Jennifer Lawrence
Solid, but no real standout here to take her to the upper echelons.

Eiza Gonzalez
Herculean (or Amazonian) task here to pull this off with this shade of yellow at an event of the Oscars’ tone.    For starters, the dress should have been shorter.    Nonetheless, it’s well made and fits well.

Camila Alves
Effortlessly elegant.    The necklace is the stealth champion in this outfit.

Eliane Cavalliero

SAG Awards 2018

The winners were:

Allison Brie:
Wowza.   It seems she doesn’t even know how well she has done here.   Reds are difficult to pull off on the red carpet, and this dress is simple in terms of fabrication.   However, that lightning bolt of pizzazz really electrifies the dress without being garish.   One side of the dress is tame, and the other side is wild.   Superb contrast.   The slit, and her shoes are perfect.   Extremely well done.  The rest is how she carries it, and my oh my… she does carry it well.

LOS ANGELES – JANUARY 21: (Photo by Frazer Harrison/Getty Images)

Renée Bargh:
Refreshingly unique, and just the right colour and accessories to look heavenly.    Brilliant,  just brilliant.

Lupita Nyongo:
Lovely.   It fits so well!   … it’s just a tad sombre.   She is clearly coming in to her own in terms of style.

Golden Globes 2018

The Best Dressed were:

Bianca Blanco:

Bianca looks gorgeous.  She may get some criticism for the tone of the moment, but fashion has always been about Art with the human form as the canvas.  There is no conflict here.  The message has always been, how a person looks is not a ‘yes’ to abuse.  It would be hypocritical to criticize Bianca now.

Naomi Campbell:

Naomi’s presence here is outstanding.  Her nails and the bracelets go well together.  Not too much nor too little of anything. She looks elegant and complete.

Chrishell Stause:

Not a celebrity in her own right, but Chrishell shines here.

Honourable Mentions:

Penelope Cruz:

This is a wonderful dress.

Gal Gadot:

Unique and classy.  She has really come into her own.

Kerry Washington:

Nice dress.  The shoes could have been better.

Cannes 2017!

The Best Dressed was Adriana Lima!

Perfect. Simple and beautiful. The makeup isn’t overdone. And (thankfully) Genuine Nails. Finally, the hue of lipstick matches the carpet exquisitely.

Also excellent were:

Uma Thurman in Atelier Versace:

The cut and fit on this dress are just so precise, it is as much a work of Engineering as it is of Art. Uma’s presence is on point, and the outfit is sparingly accessorized. (Not much is needed as the dress already has the Shell Contours.) The flower buds in the hand are a refined touch. Overall, high class done right.

Eva Herzigova:

Eva carries this very well. There’s a dab of playfulness in the dress and she expresses it well.

Honourable Mention:

Delphine Wespiser:

A well put-together ensemble. A person doesn’t need to spend huge amounts to look good. Bravo!

MET Gala 2017!

The Best Dressed was Gisele Bundchen!

Poor Gisele. If an Alien Spaceship visits Earth and they say, “We demand your best to take back to our Galaxy!”… she’d be gone! It’s somewhat apt though, as here she is looking scintillatingly out of this world!

Also looking excellent were:

Adriana Lima:

Lovely. On another person the outfit may be lacking some accessories, but her fabulous glow makes up for it.

Taylor Hill:

Taylor Hill

Yes! Ordinarily this would be screaming for a necklace, but it’s absolutely wondrous what she’s done to her eyes.

Felicity Jones:

So many try to be different, and miss. The colours and style here are refreshingly different, and her look is quite elegant.

Reese Witherspoon:

Kendall Jenner:

Daring. Huge gamble. She swings for the fences and hits it out of the park. Her age, persona, and no tattoos make it work.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS:

Nicki Minaj:

Well balanced… revealing, original, and with some sophistication. The key is she doesn’t over-do it in any one department, and overall it yields an outfit that is more exciting than most.

Karlie Kloss:

Lovely stems. They complement the rather basic top well. And her haircut makes this work even more. Well done; but definitely not for everyone. She has the assets for it.

Behati Prinsloo:

I’m a bit torn about this one. It has a ‘sleeping gown’ vibe. However her accessories, hairstyle, and that small train take her over the finish line.

Gwyneth Palthrow:

It’s nice. Can’t say much more though. Sometimes, that’s enough if you’re trying to be safe.
